WHY A LOCAL COACH?
Viaducts, valleys and two parkruns. Stockport is made for running.
I'm Steve. My own running started with Couch to 5K in 2018, so I know what it's like to wonder whether you're really "a runner". That quickly became an obsession, and I went on to qualify as an England Athletics coach.
I'm based in Denton, right next door to Stockport, and I coach across the whole borough. Stockport has everything a runner needs: riverside trails through Reddish Vale, traffic-free miles on the Trans Pennine Trail, parkruns at Woodbank and Bramhall, and a proper local race in the Stockport 10.
It's just me, so the person who writes your plan is the same person who meets you for sessions, answers your messages and adjusts things when work or family life gets in the way.

WHERE WE TRAIN
Running in and around Stockport
We'll agree where sessions happen based on your goals and what's convenient: near home, near work or on the routes you already run. Stockport has some brilliant places to train.
TRAILS · RIVERSIDE · EASY MILES
Reddish Vale Country Park
400 acres of riverside meadows, mill ponds and woodland along the River Tame, overlooked by the 16-arch railway viaduct built in 1875. It's perfect for easy runs and gentle off-road miles.
SATURDAYS · 9AM · FREE 5K
Woodbank parkrun
A free, timed 5K every Saturday in Woodbank Park, starting at the Stockport Harriers athletics track. It's the ideal way to benchmark your fitness, and the same park hosts the start of the Stockport 10.
TRAFFIC-FREE · LONG RUNS
Trans Pennine Trail
The Trans Pennine Trail runs through Stockport along the Mersey and Tame valleys, including a former railway line through Reddish Vale. It's great for steady long runs without worrying about traffic.
SATURDAYS · 9AM · FREE 5K
Bramhall parkrun
A second free, timed 5K every Saturday at Bramhall Park in the south of the borough. It's handy if you live around Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme or Hazel Grove.
Training for a local race? The Stockport 10 starts and finishes at Woodbank Park every December, and its hills make it a great target for a winter training block.
WHO I COACH
Coaching for real runners with real goals
Most of the runners I work with aren't chasing elite times. They want to run with more confidence, stop getting injured, or finally hit a target that's been just out of reach.

FAQS
Running coach in Stockport: common questions
Where do in-person sessions in Stockport take place?
Anywhere across the borough that suits your goals and is convenient for you. Popular options are Reddish Vale, Woodbank Park, the Trans Pennine Trail or a route from your home or work, from Reddish and Bredbury to Marple, Cheadle and Bramhall. I also coach in Denton, Hyde and across Tameside.
How much does a running coach in Stockport cost?
1:1 in-person sessions start at £35, with discounts for block bookings. Online coaching starts at £60 per 4 weeks with no long-term contract, and running form & gait analysis is £35 in person. We can work out the right option on a free chat.
Can you help me train for the Stockport 10?
Yes. The Stockport 10 is a 10-mile race from Woodbank Park in December, with undulating roads, a short off-road section and two big climbs. I can build a plan around it, with hill work and pacing practice on the same local roads and parks.
I'm a complete beginner. Is coaching for me?
Absolutely. I started with Couch to 5K myself, and I coach complete beginners right through to marathon runners. Everything starts from where you are now.
Can I combine in-person sessions with online coaching?
Yes. Lots of runners follow an online plan during the week and book occasional 1:1 sessions for technique, hill work or race preparation. Just ask on your free chat.
What qualifications do you have?
I'm an England Athletics-qualified Coach in Running Fitness (CiRF) and Leader in Running Fitness (LiRF).
