Pace Calculator
Pace Calculator
Got a race coming up? Work out exactly the pace you need for a goal time — or what time a given pace will actually get you — plus what that pace is worth across every other common race distance.
Enter your distance (or pick a common event below), then either your target finish time or your target pace, and I'll work out the rest — the same splits maths I use when I'm building race plans for the runners I coach in Manchester and online.
Work out your pace & splits
Fill in your distance, then either a time or a pace — leave the other one blank.
Fill in a distance plus a time or pace and hit "Calculate" — your splits will appear here.
That pace across common distances
Splits assume a flat, even pace throughout. Real race pacing should account for hills, negative/positive splits, and how the distance is raced tactically.
How to use the pace calculator
Pick whichever you know: if you have a goal finish time, enter that plus your distance and I'll tell you the pace you need to hold. If you already know the pace you can sustain, enter that instead and I'll tell you what time it converts to. Either way, you'll also see what that same pace is worth across every other standard race distance — handy for comparing how a marathon goal pace compares to your natural 10K pace, for example.
If you'd rather start from a recent race result to see what you're currently capable of, try the Race Time Predictor. For a full reference table across every pace from easy to fast, see the Pace Table.
